About us
Who we are
We are a multidisciplinary consortium of research scientists, epidemiologists, wastewater treatment plant operators and data analysts dedicated to advancing public health surveillance through innovative wastewater monitoring (see partners). Established at LIST in Luxembourg, our team combines extensive expertise in molecular biology, environmental science, and public health informatics. With decades of collective experience in infectious disease surveillance, we leverage cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to transform wastewater analysis into actionable public health intelligence.
What we do
Our platform serves as a comprehensive surveillance system for monitoring infectious viral diseases through wastewater analysis in Luxembourg. We systematically track and analyse virus of public health interest including SARS-CoV-2, influenza viruses, and other significant enteric and respiratory pathogens. This data enriches traditional surveillance systems, providing crucial population-level insights that inform public health strategies and decision-making processes.
Why we do it
Wastewater-based epidemiology represents a paradigm shift in disease surveillance. This non-invasive, population-wide approach provides near real-time data on community health status, enabling early detection of emerging threats and monitoring of disease trends. By implementing this advanced surveillance system, we contribute to evidence-based public health interventions and enhanced preparedness for infectious disease outbreaks. Our mission is to make this information accessible and actionable, empowering public health authorities and researchers to respond effectively to viral outbreaks.
How we do it
To transform raw data into meaningful insight, our methodology integrates systematic environmental sampling, advanced molecular diagnostics, and sophisticated data analytics (see video). Through a network of strategically placed sampling sites, we maintain comprehensive national coverage. Our state-of-the-art analytical techniques guarantee accuracy, data reliability and reproducibility. This platform is a culmination of years of research and collaboration with experts across disciplines (see partners).

Why we built this website
This digital interface represents our commitment to data democratization and scientific transparency. We've designed it to serve diverse stakeholders – from public health authorities and healthcare professionals to researchers and policy makers – as well as the interested public, by presenting complex epidemiological data in an accessible and interactive format.
Our values
Scientific excellence: We maintain rigorous methodological standards and continuous validation of our analytical processes.
Transparency: We believe in open communication and sharing reliable data, making our findings accessible to all who can benefit from them.
Public health impact: We prioritize generating actionable insights that directly contribute to population health protection.
